THE John Cook Memorial Cup was run as a pre-season cup for the third year running. Four sides entered and after a tough game with both teams committed, Shobdon went through to the final by beating Leintwardine Colts 2-1.
In the other semi, another closely fought contest between Bucknell and Orleton was still in deadlock at 2-2 after extra time and Bucknell showed their prowess convincingly winning 4-1 on penalties.
The final was a one-sided affair with Shobdon unwilling to relinquish their stranglehold on the trophy retaining it for the third year running, by five goals to two.
They immediately donated their £50 winnings to Cancer Research and with Leintwardine Colts FC matching the amount, as well as referee Geoff Beaman's match fee, in excess of £100 was raised for the charity.
Barbara and family thank all those who took part and all those that gave their time in memory of John.
John's lifelong friend Chris Barber presented the trophy to the winning team.
