AFTER 11 years out of the sport Gary Dallow is back where he belongs, competing most Sundays in Border Group Motocross events. The 33-year-old is no ordinary competitor however as he is the only rider with just one leg in the Amateur Motor Cycle Association.
Gary, from near Tenbury Wells, lost his leg whilst competing at Abergavenny as a teenager in 1990. He was out of the sport for 12 months before making a come-back. When he suffered a badly broken arm in 1992 he decided it was time to quit. He was unable to watch the sport after retiring and 11 years later found the pull of the event too much to ignore.
He made another come-back in 2003 on a 125 Honda which has been adapted to meet his needs by Ken Myles of Ludlow. He started back at the junior level but has shown in his short time back in the saddle that he is not in the sport just to make up the numbers.
He has already won a number of trophies, and probably more important to him, has progressed from the junior, through the senior, and onto the expert class on the back of his performances. He is hoping his story will act as an inspiration to other disabled people and would always be pleased to share his experience.
