Proud parents, Tom and Sue Williamson, of Chelmick, Church Stretton, had little time to celebrate their daughter, Alison, claiming a bronze medal in the women's 70 metres individual archery championships at the Athens Olympics, before returning to the news channels to check on her progress in the Great Britain womens' team event.
But unfortunately, Alison and the other members of the team enjoyed little fortune and were eliminated in the preliminary round by India 230pts - 228. This resulted in Great Britain finishing in 12th position overall in the final ranking.
However, the disappointment of the team event mattered little when judged against the thrill of Wednesday when Alison, a qualified primary school teacher, beat Shu Chi Yuan of Taiwan to win an Olympic bronze medal.
"Naturally, we are so delighted with her bronze in Athens, it has been fantastic," her mother said. "We will arrange a special party for her when she returns
