I WISH to support the proposed Foldgate Lane Retail Park. I would like to second Mr D Morris's letter (Advertiser August 12).
I am a Ludlovian. I think Ludlow is a beautiful place to look at in a book or sit and have a picnic by the river - unless you use the public toilets, they are disgusting!
However, as for actually living, shopping and working here, it's a real pain sometimes.
I wanted to shop in town yesterday and it took me 30 minutes to park. Sometimes I have given up and shopped elsewhere.
When all the tourists have gone, who supports this town? Who cleans the streets? Who serves in the shops? Who delivers your paper? Local people, so give us some choice.
We need to move on in Ludlow, it's no good having a museum town full of enhancement schemes, knick-knack shops, estate agents, charity shops and not enough parking.
We need modern facilities which include shops like B&Q. Local shops of this nature have had the monopoly far too long.
They will have to rethink their attitudes, stock and prices to maintain local support.
Until Focus opened in Leominster it was a 50/60-mile round trip to see a selection of competitively priced wallpaper and DIY materials.
We are desperate for another petrol station. I dread having to get petrol at the moment, it's chaos.
It's also a safety hazard with cars hovering on the main road waiting to fill up, and cars waiting with their engines running next to the pumps.
A fast food restaurant at last! Somewhere that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to eat. The kids need modern places, something different from pubs and Michelin star establishments. Those places are fine on the right occasion, but sometimes you just want an alternative, where you can park!
Whenever something new is proposed in this town, it's the same fuss. The library, Tesco, the leisure centre, the football ground, the auction yard, it probably goes back for decades.
Just build the place and let's use it. All the people that don't want it can carry on using what is already here and queuing for petrol. The rest of us can go to the retail park. Then you can start moaning about the next modern idea.
Move Ludlow on. We have children who may get jobs on these new sites so that they might be able to afford a house in Ludlow one day.
S Williams,
Charlton Rise,
Ludlow.
