Methodist News: The holiday club started on Sunday evening in the Methodist Hall and will continue keeping the children occupied until Thursday.

SERVICE: The communion service on Sunday was conducted by the Rev Cheshire. Visitors were welcomed from London for the coffee served afterwards. The evening preacher was Mrs Margaret Wallace (Clun).

SHOW: Larkrise Studio is at the home of Stewart and Daphne Rankine on Oakely Mynd, near Bishop's Castle. The couple are showing an exhibition of their watercolours and pastels from Saturday to next Monday, 10.30am to 5pm daily. Details: 01588 638865.

PLANT STALL: South West Shropshire Gardening Club will run a car boot plant stall at Purslow Show next Monday. On Saturday, September 4, the club's horticultural show is in Craven Arms Community Centre, at 2pm.

WEB CAM DECISION DEFERRED: The town council wants to know what people think of a web camera in the town centre. As nobody has contacted the council with an opinion on the matter since the July meeting, plans have been deferred.

At the August meeting, Councillor St John Penney proposed that the scheme be given more publicity and discussed at a later date. When the idea for a web cam was put forward in July as a way to promote the town on local web sites, councillors agreed in principle to contribute £200 to the scheme.

HAL WINS MODEL CAR: Hal Phillips from Lydbury North has won a remote controlled car, in a lucky square competition, organised by Julie Furber at Bishop's Castle Post Office. The profits will go to the Christmas Lights Festival in November. There is a now a blue Subaru Impreza WRC to be won. Tickets cost £1 each.

RAILWAY SOCIETY: Bishop's Castle Railway Society meets in the Fletcher Room of the community college, on Friday, September 3. The guest speaker is Robert Smallman, from Worcester, an expert on the early days of the Ffestiniog Railway and has called his talk The Festiniog Railway Before It Got the Second F.
