PENELOPE Keith, one of our best-loved actresses and TV personalities, appears in one of Noel Coward's funniest plays at Malvern next month.
Blithe Spirit ran for nearly 2,000 performances when it opened in 1941 and was the longest running comedy in British theatre for three decades. David Lean filmed it in 1945, with the unforgettable Margaret Rutherford giving one of her greatest performances.
Penelope Keith, who was equally unforgettable in The Good Life and To the Manor Born, takes on Dame Margaret's role as Madame Arcati, the eccentric medium who conducts a sance for novelist Charles Condomine and his second wife Ruth.
Joanna Riding, versatile singer, dancer and actress, has a vast string of titles to her name including two Olivier Awards and plays Ruth, who has to contend with Charles's first wife Elvira, who has come back "from the other side" thanks to Madame Arcati. The play runs from September 6 to 11. Tickets: 01684 892277.
