I SHOULD like to express my support for the proposed enhancement of the medieval building and for the new building in the central courtyard at the Palmer's Hall site at Ludlow College.

Students have been successfully educated in the town centre for more than 800 years.

This is celebrated by a new stained glass window at St Laurence's Church showing three of the main buildings used over that time and integral to the college now: the medieval Palmer's Hall (Mill Street); the Georgian High Hall (Castle Square) and the new Harley Centre (Castle Square site).

During the centuries, other buildings have come and some have gone but they have all been appropriate to their time and particular use.

The current plan to enhance the ancient Palmer's Hall building for increased student and public use, and with vastly improved access, is a superb one, taking into account the conservation of this famous site as well as providing improved facilities.

With it goes a very well-considered plan for a modern building, discreetly placed in the inner courtyard, a building necessary for the changes required in the curriculum for the Art and Design Faculty.

I understand that the college management team and the governors are already sympathetically addressing the issues expressed by some of the participants at the public meeting.

I do hope that the SSDC planning committee approves the proposals.
