Haughmond 2 Clee Hill 1
THIS Shropshire County Premier League started off at a cracking pace with both teams looking to attack at every opportunity.
Hill produced some promising moves but these came to nothing as the final pass went astray. At the other end Clee defended well but had no answer to a fine piece of skill from the home striker who picked up the ball on the edge of the box to expertly turn a Clee defender before firing an unstoppable low drive into the corner of the net.
The visitors soon found themselves two goals down when a speculative shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection to give Clee goalkeeper Kevin Gittens no chance.
Clee did not drop their heads and came back into the game when Neil Martin won the ball in his own half and made a surging run before slipping an inch-perfect pass to Lee Martin whose first-time shot whistled inside the upright.
After the break Clee still held the upper hand but their quest to get back on terms was rocked when Neil Martin fell awkwardly while challenging for the ball and was taken to hospital, the later report diagnosing a cracked shoulder blade.
Hill continued to press for an equaliser but the home defence dug in to claim the winning points.
