WHY the sudden mass resignations from Tenbury Town Council's parks and cemeteries committee (Six councillors resign from town council committee - Tenbury Advertiser, December 18)?

Some reasons have been given but could it really be more to do with the thorny problems arising from the 'broken promise' in relation to the Burgage Children's playground, referred to by John Ferris in your letters page of December 18 (Closure is not an option)?

Surely not. Even the most naive of those councillors must realise that proposals for dealing with these problems would probably need to be considered or at least nodded through by the full council at some stage.

But I suppose it does relieve those councillors of the more demanding task of coming up with some solutions.

The council may have some other, more reasonable explanation but, in its absence, it is difficult to avoid the view that this problem has arisen because of poor financial management and planning. It is very much to the credit of those remaining on the committee, especially when one considers that most of them have inherited, rather than been involved in creating, the problem.

That they have shown the courage and determination to continue to serve and attempt to find solutions.

I wish them every success.
