CAMERA CLUB: Those who didn't make it to last week's talk and slideshow, presented by ornithologist Keith Offord, missed seeing the range of bird life he had captured on film during a trip to Texas and Arizona.
In a question and answer session he revealed the type of equipment and special technique which had gone into producing such outstanding photography was so much appreciated by his audience.
When Longmynd Camera Club members meet next Wednesday, in a change to the published programme, they will hear Roger Cable give a talk, From my Point of View.

STRETTON HISTORY: Tony Crowe's first illustrated talk on Aspects of Church Stretton History will be on Thursday, January 22, at 2.30pm in the Sylvester Horne Institute. There will be eight talks in all, and admission to these is £2.
COURSES: There is still time to register for courses in the Strettons, as some are not due to start until towards the end of the month and February.
These include 'Child in Action Pre-school', which is for pre-school youngsters accompanied by a parent or other adult, where one can learn to help a child enjoy music, develop confidence, physical skills and co-ordination.
This course is run by Amanda Wheatley in the parish centre from 10-11am on Tuesdays, starting on January 27 for eight weeks.
February courses include Get into Shape, Keep Active, Better Bodies, yoga and Relax with Yoga.
Mick Gilmore will be running a course on drawing and painting for those more experienced and with basic skills which can be built on.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS: Nicholas Nickleby will be the film at 7.30pm, in Acton Scott Village Hall tomorrow (Friday) and I Captured the Castle in All Stretton Village Hall on Saturday, at 7.30pm.
MAYFAIR: The winning numbers in the December Mayfair Lottery were: 446, 157, 221 and 521, each winning £100, £50, £20 and £10 respectively.
Information and advice on disabilities and benefits can be had on Wednesdays, from 10am - noon in Mayfair Community Centre.
The Citizen's Advice Bureau is on hand from 10am - noon on Thursday and the Traidcraft Stall is also open for business from 10.30am - 1pm on Thursdays.
On Saturday, January 24, a complementary therapies open day is planned.
DANCING: Ticklerton Village Hall is the venue for country dancing on Saturday, from 8pm.

CHRISTIAN UNITY: A united service for a week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be held at St Laurence's Church on Sunday, at 11am, and, next Wednesday, the United Reformed Church is open between 11am-noon as a drop-in centre for a Prayer for Christian Unity.
COUNTRYWOMAN'S GUILD: Next Tuesday, members will have a new year lunch party in the parish centre, at 12.30pm.
WOMEN'S NETWORK: The meeting, in the Methodist Church Hall, at 2.30pm, next Wednesday, has Mrs Sheila Crowe as the speaker, with Footprints as her subject.
SWIMMING: The pool is open on Wednesdays, 12.15-1pm and is a 'swim for pleasure' adult lane swimming session costing £2.
Thursdays, 7.30-8.30pm, is for competent swimmers over eight, followed at 8.30-9.30pm with water polo.
Admission to either is £2.50. Friday evenings have adult lane swimming from 7-8pm.

STRETTON CANCER CARE: Stretton Cancer Care would like to thank everyone who helped and supported the Christmas bazaar on December 13, which raised £455.
At the Christmas fair, on December 12, Berry's Coffee House raised £200 with a tombola and a 'guess the weight of the cake', while its Christmas Eve mulled wine and mince pies party brought in £450.
Stretton Cancer Care is extremely grateful to Berry's for its support and to the waitresses who donated their tips.
Money raised by the group's own fund-raising efforts, together with legacies and donations from individuals and organisations, goes towards helping members financially with such things as transport, fees for courses and workshops, holidays and help with complementary treatments, with some going for administrative purposes such as publishing the monthly newsletter.
OPEN MEETING: On Tuesday, January 27, there will be an open meeting at Church Stretton School to further discuss the future of the Church Stretton area to produce the Church Stretton and Area Regeneration Plan.
The meeting will run from 7.30-9pm and those people requiring a lift should contact Laura Watson on 01694 723244.
