CAPTAIN Ben Morris, the son of the Rector of Wentnor, the Rev Norman Morris, has finally got married -- after having to postpone the wedding once to serve with his regiment in Iraq.
Ben, a captain in the Scottish 40th Regt RA, the Lowland Gunners, had originally planned to marry his fiancee, Sue Smith, in the summer. But he was sent to Iraq before the big day.
Young officers
However, the pair finally got married at Birchington Parish Church in Kent just before Christmas with Ben's father officiating at the service.
"It was very much a military wedding," the Rev Morris said. "There were lots of young officers in 'blues' with crossed swords forming a Guard of Honour outside the church. "A piper from Ben's regiment played in church while the registers were signed, he added. "The weather was rainy and blustery but being wintertime, it did not seem to matter."
The reception was held in the centre of Canterbury with Christmas shoppers everywhere helping to create a good atmosphere.
The best man had even managed to resurrect a 1981 Christmas BBC 'Jim'll Fix It' video, when Ben, as a seven-year-old, delivered the message of the angels with new wings that Jim 'fixed' for him at his Tonbridge Primary School nativity play. The school's own angel wings has worn out apparently. Of course this brought the house down."
