Ledbury Town Reserves 0 Tenbury United 2
UNITED made the best possible start to the New Year when Ryan Morris bagged a brace to continue their six-game unbeaten run in league and cup matches, and claim their fifth West Midlands League Division 1 South victory of the season.
Player/manager Colin Powell summed up their improved form by saying: "The team are much fitter than at the beginning of the season and have adjusted to the improved standard of this league with a growing confidence."
Although losing the toss and being invited to play down the slope, Tenbury's well-organised defence, with the back three of Matt Kurkus, Paul Higgins and Aaron Morris outstanding, closed down any home attacks so effectively that their goalkeeper Byron Davies had little to do.
At the other end, Ryan Morris was always causing the Ledbury defence problems and in the closing minute of the first period he collected the ball inside his own half and set off on another solo run.
He beat the first defender and then ran at the heart of the home defence before opening the scoring with a superb left-footed drive.
After the break, Tenbury again controlled the play and once again it was Morris who did the damage.
This time he collected the ball in midfield, made progress down the left, and cut in on a diagonal run that left would-be tacklers in his wake, again finding the far corner with a crisp finish.
