Church Stretton 2 Morda 0

ALTHOUGH being inactive for three weeks was not ideal it gave Stretton players carrying minor knocks a chance to recover.

They were able to choose from a full squad and gave a sparkling performance to beat visiting Morda and enhance their prospect of a top finish in the Shropshire Premier League.

They made a bright start and showed promise with a series of fast flowing moves that had the visitors at full stretch. Both strikers Joe Leask and David Humphries had chances to open the scoring but failed to finish when well placed.

The pressure eventually paid off when Matt Tudor made a run to the by-line before pulling the ball back for Dean Richards to hit the target with an unstoppable volley.

Stretton continued to dominate for the rest of the half but failed to add to their total.

After the break it was much the same, but this time they struck in the second minute to extend their lead.

They forced a corner down the left and dean Richards provided a teasing cross for Dan Woosnam to steal in at the near post and flick a neat volley past the Morda goalkeeper.

Although Stretton continued to control the play they could not find the target, but the welcome victory eased them up into a challenging fifth spot.

League leaders Ellesmere are way clear at the top but a good run could lift Stretton into the top three.
