Clee Hill 2 Hanwood 0
LOW cloud and a snow-covered pitch did not stop Clee Hill from starting the new year with a welcome win, a victory which lifts them up towards mid-table in the Shropshire County Premier League.
With visibility just about playable and the lines having to be cleared of snow, both teams struggled to create any chances in the difficult under-foot conditions with most of the play in the first period being confined to mid-field.
Clee Hill adapted the better to the heavy going and as the second half progressed started to pose problems for Hanwood.
The visitors held out until well into the secondhalf when mid-fielder Richard Martin supported a slick break to open the scoring with a crisp finish.
Hanwood tried to get back on terms but when they lost possession in the mid-field Clee broke quickly and substitute Chris Breakwell, who had only just joined the fray, beat the off-side trap to race clear.
Spotting that the visiting goalkeeper had come off his line he calmly lobbed the last line of defence to put the result beyond doubt.
