A DRIVER who died in a three-vehicle crash on the A49 near Ludlow last Friday has been named as Allan Ward, aged 82, of Harborne, Birmingham.
Mr Ward, a retired businessman, was on his way to visit relatives in Clun when the accident happened a mile south of the Onibury level crossing.
He was driving his red Ford Fiesta towards Shrewsbury when it was involved in a head-on collision with a red Vauxhall Astra estate travelling towards Ludlow.
A white Peugeot 309 behind the Astra was also involved in the collision.
Injuries
The Astra driver, a Hereford man, was taken to Hereford General Hospital with serious multiple injuries.
His front seat passenger, also from Hereford, was taken to the same hospital with serious leg injuries. A back seat passenger was slightly hurt.
The Peugeot driver, a woman from North Wales, suffered minor injuries.
Friday rush-hour traffic ground to a halt as a result of the accident at about 4pm.
The main road was closed for about five hours and traffic was diverted through Corvedale and along the B4365.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to call them on 08457 444888.
