IT was crash-bang time in Cleobury Mortimer on Monday evening as Shropshire County Council officials told a public meeting why moves to widen the main road at Brown's Corner must wait.
As a team led by divisional surveyor Ian Rutherford explained there was no money in the kitty for the work to be carried out, an articulated lorry was in collision with one of his colleagues' cars parked nearby.
The widening of a 30-metre stretch of the road would allow parking on both sides and traffic to pass in both directions.
Traders have asked for the kerb line to be modified to let traffic to pass more easily through the centre of the village.
The accident was not likely to speed up the project, which could cost £20,000, council traffic engineer Glyn Shaw warned.
A decision could not be made until departmental budgets were allocated in the new year and other schemes could be given priority.
