FORGET those posters for Kate Winslet's film Titanic. The genuine article, dating from 1912 and advertising the world's most famous liner, comes up for auction in Ludlow next Thursday.

The poster was issued in Tenby and carries a typewritten label: "Apply ticket office Great Western Railways, Haverfordwest station, Pembrokeshire, for all sailing times and information regarding the maiden voyage of the White Star liner Titanic."

It will be sold by Church Stretton based auction house Mullock Madeley, whose cataloguer Richard Westwood-Brookes says "There is a slight tear to the top left hand corner. Otherwise it is in remarkably good condition for its age." It carries an estimated sale value of between £400 and £600.

There is a possibly less expensive Titanic souvenir in the same sale. A promotional picture postcard with a postmark dated 6 May 1912 is expected to fetch between £70 and £100.

Ludlow is represented by a document on vellum from 1706, confirming the rights of farmers from around Tenbury Wells to bring their produce to Ludlow market free of tolls and other charges. This scarce item from the reign of Queen Anne could reach £80 to £120.

Fans of Coronation Street may be more interested in a 58-page script from 1972, signed by a cast that included Pat Phoenix (Elsie Tanner) and Thelma Barlow (Mavis). It belonged to an actor who had just two lines in this particular episode and could be yours for between £70 and £100.

The sale at Ludlow Assembly Rooms starts at 2.30pm.
