A NEW version of a book by John Scott Morgan - Bishops Castle, Portrait of a Country Railway - has been published by the town's Railway Society.
The Society, flourishing with a membership of more than 100, has bought the copyright and production material for the book, first published in 1991. The new impression has details of the Society and its museum.
The old railway line ran between Bishop's Castle and Craven Arms, serving stations at Lydham Heath, Eaton, Plowden and Horderley with a "halt" at Strefford Bridge Junction, where the line joined the main Shrewsbury-Hereford route.
The book features many photographs, details the history of the line and contains numerous stories about its operation. Copies are available at £8.95 plus 69p postage from the Society secretary Bob Darnell at 3, Newport Street, Clun, telephone 01588 640422.
