Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that people do not always read newspaper letters correctly or deliberately twist the interpretation of a letter to suit their own purposes. So, I feel the need to reply to the person in Stanton Road who wrote 'Shed will damage heart of Town'
If that person had actually taken the time to read my letter properly, they would have found that I was not degrading the job of shelf-filler or any other work. In fact, there is no shame in any type of work that brings in much needed cash. No insult was made to any business in Ludlow, each of which does an excellent service to the town. I myself run a small business from Ludlow and am reliant on the facilities that the town has to offer.
If that person had actually taken the trouble to follow the thread of the letter, they would have been aware that it was in response to another and that the economic history of Ludlow had everything to do with my previous reply and Saint Laurence's Italian wall panels in the chancel was an example of this point. Nor did I state or imply there was a 'them and us' divide by using the word outsiders. I dislike the use of that term intensely.
Everyone has a right to his or her opinion, but aren't opinions meant to be based of facts and not on superficial prejudices.
