APPARENTLY I am in a minority, but quite frankly in this case I have no problem with this if it means that the benefits outweigh the concerns regarding the proposed retail park.
Let's face it, the population of Ludlow consists of many "oldies and newcomers" who seem to want Ludlow to remain in the past and who are adamant that our great town must not evolve. There is no doubt in my mind that these people are in a phrase "forward in going backwards". I suppose in a way the younger generation are to blame, as these "oldies and newcomers" are the very people who have the guts to join the town's committees and councils allowing them to have a greater voice, which is heard.
Surely, the prospect of many new jobs, new shops and prosperity for the town in a convenient locality is a plus, not only for the town, but also for its people. At a guess, I would say the objectors are the same people who objected to the new Tesco's and the Museum and Resource Centre, which have now been accepted by the town and both highly successful.
What do many of us do on a weekend? We'll go to Hereford, Shrewsbury or Kidderminster to purchase DIY materials and then visit other shops in the town to make the most of the journey. Doesn't it make more sense to have a B & Q in Ludlow as a magnet for our town's people?
Many people I have spoken to are in favour of the retail park, but sadly, if they do not speak up, then they will always be the minority.
Ludlow needs this park, I'm certain it will be environmentally friendly and will not have the drastic impact that the so-called majority says it will. Let's step out of the past and embrace Ludlow's future.
