Ludlow Rovers 4 Woodside 0
LUDLOW Rovers go marching on as they continued their winning run to move into the second round of the Ironbridge Premier Sunday Cup with a comfortable win over Telford-based Woodside.
They made all the early running and deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute when a quickly taken free kick by Paul Frizwell found Alan Middleton unmarked at the back post, the striker outjumping the visiting defenders to power a header past the Woodside goalkeeper.
Although they continued to control the game and create several half chances Rovers failed to increase their lead as the plucky visitors got plenty of defenders behind the ball.
It was much the same after the interval with Rovers dominating the play, and it was no surprise when they extended their lead through Doug Dovey. Rovers forced a corner and Martyn Jarman's swinging cross found the unmarked Dovey, who gave the goalkeeper no chance with a crisp volley.
A third goal soon followed when skipper Sean Nicholas slipped a well weighted through ball to Jarman who rounded the goalkeeper to slide the ball home.
Woodside tried to get back into the game but Rovers wrapped up an emphatic win when Steve Clear raced through to collect a Shaun Michaels pass and complete the scoring with a powerful drive.
