LUDLOW is unique in its natural setting. At CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) we campaign to protect the uniqueness of market towns to protect their distinctive character and stop them becoming clones of each other.
We do see the need for another petrol station in the town but it has to be said that a new large retail park on the edge of town would be the start of a slow death of the centre of Ludlow, as a shopping centre. This has already happened in other areas.
The main reason visitors come to Ludlow is because it has remained unspoilt. Foldgate Lane is one of the few remaining green lanes out of Ludlow and its ancient origins should be preserved not destroyed.
Our next open meeting is tomorrow at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Watling Street, Church Stretton. Roger Carlyle will give a talk on 'What Makes Your Landscapes Special'. Please come and join us.
Pam Farquhar,
Steventon,
Ludlow.
