IT is not often one is able to find artists who have appeared at London's Wigmore Hall - the mecca for chamber musicians and soloists - also playing in Lydbury North.
For those of us living in South Shropshire, Walcot Hall has become an ideal venue for music of high quality.
The audience for the concert on Sunday, September 14, is grateful to John Geach for arranging for his friends Jonathan Ayerst (piano) and Sarah Jane Bradley (viola) to return once more, and provide us with such a musical treat.
The concert opened and closed with vocal items - first, two of Duparc's moving songs, performed with assurance and passion by John Geach and Jonathan Ayerst. The other work in the first half was the Fantasia in C Major by Schumann, a major work demanding a wide range of pianistic skill and Jonathan managed to convey the energy and brilliance of the piece admirably.
The second half started with Jonathan's composition Suite No 2, for viola and piano.
Sarah Jane Bradley, who is married to Jonathan, is one of the country's leading viola players and her skill and delicacy in this absorbing piece were remarkable.
This was moving music played exquisitely. The other main piece was the Sonata in E flat by Brahms for viola and piano - something of a warhorse - and the two artists brought real freshness to their interpretation. Donald Whittle.
