THE views of Ludlow people on changes proposed to the layout of the Bullring area of the town are being gathered ready for a full report in November.
Ludlow Town Council hopes by the middle of the month to find out what people want and what solutions are available and practical to deal with the problem of traffic and pedestrian management in the area.
Hundreds of leaflets were distributed around the town at the weekend giving a sight of Shropshire County Council plans to "enhance" the busy section of the town centre.
Opposition has been mounted by individuals, committee members of the Civic Society and of Ludlow Town Centre Residents Association, the Ludlow Chamber of Trade and town council but the leaflets claimed that the answers given by the county council have so far given little comfort.
Organisers have also criticised the county council as the highways authority for refusing so far to reconsider their plans.
Among organisers of the protest group convenor Graeme Perks said: "This scheme is unlikely to improve traffic flow and could lead to chaos in Old Street and Corve Street.
"It has been suggested that a trial of the proposed new traffic light system should be carried out before permanent alterations costing £245,000 are put in place.
"The county council have refused to test how the new traffic flow will work before starting the project."
Townspeople are being urged to put forward their ideas on preserving the character of the town while accepting the need for reorganisation of traffic flow.
They have been urged to write to Rob Surl, Shropshire County Council, The Shire Hall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6ND.
