MY attention has been drawn to an article in the Thursday, September 11, edition of The Advertiser.
I would like to clarify that the positive situation we find ourselves in now with these important pedestrian facilities and reduced speed limit being programmed for completion by the end of March 2004, is largely the result of the efforts of the local community.
Burford Parish Council, chaired by Brian Howells, Mr N Holdsworth, and local county councillor and Shropshire County Council chairman, Major Adrian Coles, have been in discussion with us about this over a long period.
I am pleased to report that a productive site meeting involving myself as principal traffic engineer for Shropshire with a design engineer from the Consultants Parkman, took place on Monday, September 1, with the parish council chairman and local county councillor, during which a number of issues were resolved. The detailed design is now proceeding and once more I must congratulate the local community and their elected representatives for working so constructively with Shropshire County Council in the development of this scheme.
R A Drummond,
Principal traffic engineer,
Shropshire County Council,
Abbey Forgate,
Shrewsbury.
