CLEOBURY Mortimer's famous Borders Classic Bike Show is back in the town's Lacon Childe School this weekend

The growing reputation of the show has attracted entries from as far as Kent, Wiltshire and South Wales as the pick of the classics line up to compete for trophies.

The bikes range from Peter Sole's 1911 350cc Royal Enfield to Shaun Hancox's mighty 1979 six-cylinder 1000cc Honda, plus a TV star from the Heartbeat series, a 197cc Francis-Barnett police bike.

"Just because bikes get old does not mean they stop work," organiser Jim Reynolds pointed out.

"Graham Ham is bringing his 1948 500cc Triumph Speed Twin up from Kent, the bike he rode over 4,000 miles last year to win the Triumph Motor Cycle Club's Landmark trophy.

And Bob Austin's 1963 650cc BSA Rocket Gold Star doesn't show its age, despite a visit to South Africa earlier this year, when it covered 3,500 miles in four weeks."

On Sunday there is a bike jumble and an extra concours competition for machines ridden to the event.

Mr Reynolds added: "On both days the home-made catering by the school's Parent Teacher Association is the best you'll find at any show and to help the tea and cake go down, there's a non-stop classic video show in the canteen."

The event, in aid of Lacon Childe School, will see two halls full of bikes as well as a number of other attractions.

The show is open from 1pm to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 5 pm on Sunday. Admission is £3 for adults or £1.50 for under 16s and OAPs. For further information call Jim Reynolds on 01299 270642.
