Hinton 1 Woofferton 1
WOOFFERTON opened their Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division campaign with a battling draw at Hinton to earn a well-deserved point.
After the scheduled opening game against Painters was cancelled, it was a sluggish Woofferton who started against a Hinton team who had already played a couple of competitive matches.
There was little to chose between the teams with Hinton missing a glorious chance to open the scoring from a breakaway, and at the other end, Kevin Phasey shooting straight at the goalkeeper from close range.
After the interval, Woofferton brought on substitute Neil Crump, a move which seemed to inject life into the visitor's attack, but although creating more chances the final ball was lacking and the opportunities were not converted.
With a scoreless draw looking the likely result Woofferton were miffed when they cleared a corner only for the referee's attention to be drawn to his assistant who had raised his flag. After some conversation the referee awarded a penalty which Hinton duly converted.
Woofferton did not drop their heads but stuck to their task and were rewarded when a superb long ball from Danny Humphries found Neil Crump.
Crump made ground down the flank and then swung over an inch-perfect cross which was headed home by Phasey, atoning for his earlier miss.
