WITH reference to Shropshire County Council's plans for 'enhancement' at The Bull Ring, like lots of locals who actually use this area daily, whether on foot, on two wheels or on four, I have grave doubts about the benefits of this county council scheme.
So asked whether at least it could be set up first as a temporary arrangement, with bollards etc., and temporary lights. This would cost very little and would show whether the scheme really does improve matters, or, as we suspect, prove disastrous, before much expense is committed.
Rob Surl, the county council's head of transportation, has replied simply: "We did not propose a temporary implementation of the scheme."
Isn't this refusal of a reasonable proposal a trifle arrogant? The attitude at Shirehall is that they know better than people who live and work in this town.
