LUDLOW Town continued their pre-season matches in preparation for their Midland Alliance campaign with a friendly against old West Midlands League Premier Division rivals at Kington.
Injuries
This was their sixth match in the space of 22 days and although the squad are getting much needed match fitness there have been a couple of unfortunate injuries to promising youngsters Shaun Humphries (knee ligaments) and Oliver Williams (ankle ligaments).
However the weakened Ludlow started with a bang and opened their account in the second minute when mid-fielder Matthew Webb robbed home sweeper Mark Sutton as he dallied just outside the box and ran through to give goalkeeper Rory Hollingshead no chance.
The game settled down and both sides played some attractive football but another mistake at the back, this time by Kington defender Chris Aspey, gave promising Ludlow striker Andy Jones a chance.
He took it well and swivelled on the edge of the box to drill a sweet left-footed shot into the corner for the visitor's second goal. Both managers took the opportunity to bring on reserves and rearrange their teams, with Kington trying out a couple of promising youngsters.
After the interval Kington tried to get back on terms but were held by a well organised Ludlow defence.
Kington's persistence was rewarded mid-way through the half when Jack Gwilliam swung over a beautifully judged cross from the left and Alex Hunt volleyed home at the far post.
