Tenbury Carers Group: Nurse Carol Hutchinson welcomed her band of carers, and the group was pleased to see that Fiona managed to attend this month. Her husband Jack was in hospital but she was hoping that, when discharged, she would be able to care for him at home. Mrs Vaughan, a new member, was pleased to see everyone and said she would look forward to our coffee and chat. She told us of a surprise outing to Wales and to the cottage where she was born, in a very remote part, and of bringing up a large family with very little. Dorothy's grandson had planned the outing, and for a carer, a pleasant surprise for her husband.

Doris was glad to be back. Her husband was in respite and she has been very poorly. But the flowers and card sent by the group were beautiful and a real boost. The group hoped that with a break she would be able to continue with her caring.

Wendy and her son, whom she cares for, had been on the local coach holiday to Ireland, and had a very enjoyable time. Vera sent her apologies as she wasn't well but hoped to be at the next group meeting.

Pauline handed round newsletters and gave the news from her various meetings in Malvern and Worcester. She reported that money was more restricted. Even so, she stands up for Tenbury insisting that members are informed about any changes. Worcestershire Carers' Association meet on September 12 and two members will attend. Social Services is striving constantly to keep a 'carer service', but the news is they would probably become an independent basis. Nurse Carol has already filled in a form for information.

Finally, Maisie reported that she had been invited to Tenbury High School for a Presentation Evening on July 17. She was delighted when the George Morrison Daily Challenge Trophy which she had donated to the school, was awarded to a young girl student. It was a splendid evening and the pupils were excellent in the musical interlude.

CANCER RESEARCH: "Bring out your bras" - especially the pink ones- is the message from Daphne Allen, Tenbury area volunteer for Cancer Research UK, the nation's leading funder of Breast Cancer Research.

Countdown to 'Get in the Pink' month is well under way and Daphne is urging everyone one in Tenbury and the Teme Valley to sign up for a fundraising pack full of idea on how to join in the fun. Scheduled for an October launch, campaigners are planning to use lots of pink bras, plus any old bras in white, beige or greying that can be dyed in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Volunteer collectors keen to help out and people willing to donate their bras can contact Daphne Allen on 01568 750227.
