THREE works by living composers feature in the series of five subscription concerts to be held at Moor Park School this winter.
The series begins on September 27 with a performance by the London Mozart Trio of Melancholia by the promising young composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad. She completed the music last year and it is in a single movement with three variations. The concert also includes Beethoven's third Piano Trio and the massive Piano Trio by Tchaikovsky.
The Callino String Quartet plays Belfast-born Ian Wilson's Quartet no 6 on October 18 in a programme that includes Janacek and Beethoven.
The third new work will be the world premiere of Trittico all'antico by Nicolas Bacri, who is a semi-finalist in this year's Masterprize competition. He features in a concert on March 27 by the Ensemble a Vent Paris-Bastille.
The Trio Inconnu will play on Baroque instruments in the Young Artists' Concert sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust on November 8. Soprano Julie Cooper joins the Trio for works by Handel and Campra.
Much-acclaimed Russian pianist Alex Slobodyanik tackles one of the most daunting pieces in the repertoire, Ravel's fiendish Gaspard de la Nuit on February 21. Schumann's Papillons and Rachmaninov's First Sonata make up a thrilling programme.
All five concerts start at 7.30pm. Single tickets are £10 each, or £3 for students, but membership of the Society offers a season ticket for all five concerts at £36. For details, ring Mrs B Hely-Hutchinson on 01584 876230 or Mr M Soubeyran on 01584 877343.
