COUNCILLOR Reg Farmer is correct when he says illegal dumping of waste at the Tenbury Wells Waste Reclamation Centre is due to irresponsible people.
However, he does not say who these irresponsible people are. Surely he cannot mean the people who dump the rubbish - they have done the responsible thing and taken it to the official waste site, rather than tip it in a field. It is the Council that is irresponsible - they have failed to provide adequate facilities. They have also failed to live up to their own mission statement. This says that the Council's purpose it to "improve the quality of life for everyone in the district".
Having a Waste Reclamation Centre that is hardly every open, leading to all this dumped rubbish, cannot be said to 'improve the quality of life'. And Tenbury residents are told to take their old fridge-freezer to Leominster. But how do you get a fridge-freezer in the boot of a Fiesta?
And why should residents have to undertake a 20-mile round trip when there is a Waste Reclamation Centre on their doorstep? Until a few weeks ago people living in Malvern could ring the council and have their old fridge-freezer taken away -free of charge, because at that time there was no local disposal site. So why doesn't the Council offer Tenbury residents this service?
Or is it one rule for Malvern, and another for Tenbury?
