ROTARY CLUB OF LUDLOW: Local businessman Phil Stevenson, 57-year-old managing director of Nightingales Ltd is the new president of the Rotary Club of Ludlow.

At the recent hand over ceremony the outgoing president Tom Carter welcomed his successor as representing a new era in Rotary which sees younger people taking office in their respective clubs.

In his acceptance speech the new president said: "It is an honour to be taking over as president of a club which is in such fine shape and I take very seriously the responsibility for continuing the process of change so important to a healthy future. Our fund-raising for local community projects over the last few years has been at record levels with large donations going to Ludlow Hospital, the Rockspring Centre, the Shropshire and Mid-Wales Hospice, Hope House Hospice for children and the Ludlow division of the St. John Ambulance".

"My particular ambition as president is to see the club maintaining this momentum while at the same time improving our hands-on activities in support of old and young alike in and around Ludlow".

A board director of the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and a resident of Caynham, Phil has been a Rotarian for eight years. During this time he has successfully combined his business and Rotary responsibilities together with continuing his love of sport which includes captaining the Rotary International cricket team in 'test' matches in India, Australia, New Zealand and England.
