Methodist News: The Abbeyfield House garden party on Saturday had glorious weather and a crowd of people to enjoy the lovely garden and the strawberries and cream tea served by committee members.

Stalls were well laden and games, competitions and a raffle kept everyone busy. During the afternoon the chairman, Mr Peter Norton, presented a 10-year certificate to Mrs Flossie Jarvis for "outstanding dedication and achievement" since the very first meeting of Abbeyfield House in Bishop's Castle in 1989. Now a beautiful, well-run home much appreciated by all the residents.

Mrs Jarvis was amazed at the secrecy before the presentation.

CAMP MEETING: A Large crowd gathered on a glorious Sunday afternoon last week for a Methodist camp meeting at Giants Cave, White Gritt, by invitation of Mrs Netta Griffiths.

The preacher was the Rev Michael Newman of Clun, who gave an inspiring address that welcomed everyone and the singing was accompanied by Mrs Jenny Watts.

Following the service, refreshments were served and a time of chat enjoyed, and thanks to all who had helped. The next special effort will be on July 27 in Norbury Village Hall, organised by Kinnerton Chapel.

TROLLEY COST CUTTER DASH: The lucky winner of the Costcutter one minute trolley dash was Barbara Preece from Plowden Mill. Christine Barnes from Stars the newsagents won the top raffle prize-a flight in a light aircraft with Neville Morris. Valerie Brown won a 1950's pound note in Rita Coxall's competition.

WENTNOR BENEFICE FUND RAISERS: Church fund raising events in the Wentnor benefice have proved to be very popular. The coffee morning at The Glebe on Saturday 7 June made £454, and Norbury midsummer fayre on Saturday 21 June made £600. The More Festival with the service, David Leek organ recital & art exhibition made £445 profit for the More Church Restoration Fund. the Rev Norman Morris thanks everyone who took part.

SNEAD TRIUMPH IN MATCH: The Wentnor Inter-parish Cricket contest was again an exciting event! The weather was marvellous for cricket on Saturday 28 June at Bishop's Castle Community College Playing Fields. Six teams took part - Wentnor, Ratlinghope, Norbury, Myndtown, Lydham and Snead. Originally, it was thought 8 might take part with a BC team but BC merged into Snead with significant results. From two groups and hard fought games, Snead and Myndtown emerged as finalists. After a shock dismissal of Matt Mellor, Myndtown found runs hard to make, especially as the Rector Rev Norman Morris was struggling with his running between wickets. Snead came in for their innings and soon knocked off the runs to become the first winners of the new Inter-parish cricket shield, kindly donated by Les Denwood and made by Eric Rowson. A feature of this year was the number and skill of the younger, largely teenage generation of cricketers from the benefice - very encouraging. So after recent successes by Myndtown, laurels have gone 2000 & 2001 to Norbury, 2002 to Ratlinghope and now 2003 to Snead!
