Ludlow Town 5 Wednesfield 0
OLLIE Kesterton fired in a hat-trick as Ludlow bounced back to form and gained sweet revenge for a six goal drubbing at Wednesfield a few weeks ago. The win consolidates their mid-table position in the Premier Division of the West Midlands League.
In total contrast to the first match between the sides, Town produced a high tempo energetic team performance to totally outplay their opponents. After two weeks out with mumps Kesterton showed he had lost none of his instinct for goal as he turned the chances into goals, to boost their goals for statistic. Just as pleasing was the rare blank sheet at the other end.
After a quiet start, Kesterton seized onto the loose ball following a blunder in the Wednesfield defence and unleashed a shot into the top corner after 15 minutes. Five minutes later recent midfield signing Bruce Wheeler, playing his second game, slotted in the second goal after good build-up play between Robert Vass and Kesterton.
Ludlow responded to their half time brief by keeping the pressure on the Wednesfield defence, and the game was put well beyond the visitors as Kesterton rattled in two more goals to complete his hat-trick.
When the home side were awarded a penalty five minutes from time, keeper Anthony Prince fancied his chances, but ballooned the ball over the bar, and is unlikely to be invited to take another. There was still time left for substitute Adam Bowen to round off a good day for the home side with a fifth goal.
