Ludlow Town 6 Impact United 1.

CHRIS Breakwell’s four goals shot Ludlow Town to a comfortable 6-1 victory against visiting Impact United to extend their lead at the top of the Sportsjamkits.com Shropshire County Premier League to four points.

Playing more in fits and starts than in their commanding performance of the previous week, Town raced into a 3-0 lead inside the half hour.

Forced to make changes and explore the full depth of their squad, Ludlow registered with Breakwell opening his account when put in by Dale Hodge.

Playing up front rather than in his more accustomed midfield slot because of Nathan Hodge’s one match ban, Breakwell doubled the advantage when he drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Following a cross by Stuart Millichip, Alan Williams soon made it 3-0 for Town before Impact struck back in the 37th minute.

The glimmer of light which the goal gave to the visitors of getting back into the game was soon snuffed out, however, when Breakwell completed his hat-trick with a header from close range before the break.

The second half opened in scrappy fashion with Town intent on keeping their three-goal lead and guarding against complacency.

With United striving to pour forward they still found themselves forced on to the back foot by the pace of Aaron Hodge who was proving a constant menace for Town.

There was eventually a reward for his tireless running when he got into the penalty area and bamboozled the defence with a neat turn and left foot finish across the sprawling keeper into the far corner of the net for Town’s fifth goal.

Aaron Hodge was the catalyst again a few minutes later when he carved a passage through the United defence, raced into space and squared the ball for Breakwell to tap his fourth goal into an unguarded net.

Manager Mike Seaborne, though clearly pleased with Town’s goalscoring output in recent weeks and confident that his potent attack can continue to build on an impressive goal difference of 24, is still looking for improvement.

Seeking a bit more consistency of performance, he is now expecting the players to take their home form into their away fixtures, starting at fifth-placed Ketley Bank United in Telford this weekend.

Meanwhile, Shropshire League Division 1 pacesetters Church Stretton, originally scheduled to entertain Impact in the Ron Jones Cup, were without a game because their ground was still being used for cricket.

They will now play Impact in two weeks' time.
