A GRANT of £51,000 has been awarded to Ludlow by Barclays' Spaces for Sport towards a new skate park at Wheeler Road.
"Brilliant news," said the Mayor of Ludlow, Graeme Kidd. "It's great news for Ludlow. The town council worked with young people to get a good idea of what was on their wish list, and then the town clerk, Paul Russell, persevered with the grant application process.
"He began drawing in other partners and polishing the Ludlow application to the point where it was clearly a winner. To my personal knowledge, young people in the town have been calling for a skate park for at least 30 years -- and soon they will have a first-class facility to share and enjoy."
South Shropshire District Council has pledged £10,000 and the town council will find the rest of the cash needed to build a real, state-of-the-art facility. Essentially, it will be a complicated bowl shape, made out of concrete and set into the ground.
Barclays' Spaces for Sport is a three-year £30m community sponsorship programme to create or improve sports facilities in communities across the UK.
