Revamped Ludlow Town find form against Shifnal United

AFTER enduring a sticky spell on the heavier grounds, Ludlow are now easing themselves back to form with a draw followed by two wins in their last three games.

Significantly these games have been played on surfaces more suited to their slick style of football.

Injuries and work commitments meant that Town were forced to make several changes to their winning line-up from the previous game. The revamped squad started well and created chances from the outset.

They took the lead midway through the first half when Ally Carvell centred the ball for Jack Pound to steer home.

Their play became sloppy during the second quarter allowing Shifnal to come back into the game without causing their keeper too many problems.

After a few things were sorted out during the interval, Ludlow looked a different side in the second half and went on to win comfortably. Nathan Hodge produced a rare-headed goal from a Carvell corner to set them on their way.

Hodge then combined well with his brother Aaron to claim the third goal.

The two inter-changed passes before Nathan volleyed the ball home in spectacular fashion.

Town were cruising towards the points now and, for the second week running, Andy Pugh came off the bench to score a goal.

The home side coasted through the final minutes to secure the points which took them back to the top of the Premier Division of the Shropshire League. With other sides having games in hand, the title looks to be out of their reach, but a top-three finish is well within their grasp.
