LUDLOW Town boss Mike Seaborne was far from dejected despite seeing his side go down to nighbours Hereford United in their opening pre-season friendly at the SBS Stadium on Tuesday night.
The League 2 side predictably carried too much fire power for their Shropshire County League Premier Division opponents.
But, although Delroy Facey gave the Bulls an early boost with a third-minute strike, it was not until after the interval that Hereford were able to establish full control through Danny Williams, triallist Ian Morris (2) and transfer-listed Janos Kovacs.
“We are going back to basics with local lads and trying to build and I was chuffed to bits with the first-half,” said the Town chief.
“The boys hung in there; we knew we were always going to be second to a lot of things because of the calibre of player we were playing against but they gave a good show.
“In the second-half, we made a few changes to have a look at some of the other lads but that is the basis of the team we shall be fielding this season.
“If they can show that sort of character every Saturday, then we shall have no problems at all.”
Seaborne is already looking to the future with his enthusiastic young squad.
“We have got the players in and around South Shropshire to build the basis of a decent team,” he said.
“We were third last season but we have got to get back into the West Midlands set-up and start moving up.
“We have to start pulling together as a club - back to basics is an often-used phrase but that is what it has got to be.”
