THE new planning application from Tesco to build a supermarket in Tenbury has been submitted.

As predicted by the Advertiser more than a month ago, the supermarket giant has submitted new plans for the former cattle market – but will not appeal against the refusal of its previous scheme, which was rejected by planners in January.

Now the new scheme, which involves major changes to the original proposal, will be considered by planners at a special meeting in Tenbury either in September or October.

Tony Penn, who re presents Tenbury on Malver n Hills District Council, said he had unsuccessfully tried but failed to get the previous Tesco plan deferred instead of refused.

Councillor Penn said: “It seems that Tesco have gone away and spoken to people in order to come back with a scheme they hope will meet the concerns of people in the town.”

Tenbury town councillors have had a special meeting this week to take a first look at the new proposal, which could ag ain split opinion in the town.

It was in May last year that Tesco first declared their hand with an application for a supermarket on the derelict former cattle market site.

An initial application was withdrawn and followed by a second scheme, which was tur ned down.
