ONE of the most important battles of the Wars of the Roses, more than 500 years ago, will be recreated close to Ludlow.
Re-enactors from all over the country will be recreating the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross.
The original battle took place on February 2, 1461, and ended in a major victory for the Lancastrian Army.
There will be a Living History Encampment wandering through to demonstrate what life could have been like in the 15th century. Visitors will have a chance to chat with knights, ladies, soldiers, craftsmen and women and peasants.
Other attractions include an opportunity to talk to a barber surgeon, watch medieval dancing and mummers plays and listen to medieval music.
There will be a chance to have a go on the archery range and participate in face painting and ferret racing.
A tavern and food hall will be set up so there will be plenty of chances to grab a drink and something to eat while watching the event.
It takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, between 11am and 5pm with the main re-enactment battle taking place at 4pm.
The site is located at The Wharf Field, off the main A49, half a mile north of Leominster.
Entrance is £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and children under 16 go free.
