WORK on the restoration of a sports field and recreation area on Clee Hill is nearing completion.
A grass specialist has supervised the seeding of the Knowle Sports Field in Tenbury Road.
The area has had £50,000 spent on the project – all raised by the local community through sales held every Thursday and Saturday morning.
“It has been very hard work but we are nearly there,”
said Audrey Taylor, one of the fund-raisers.
“The support from local people in the form of donations to the sales over many years has been superb.”
It has not been possible to use the field since the summer of last year, when it became clear that major restoration works would be needed. Drainage has been installed and hundreds of tons of top soil introduced to remove a slope.
Now the area has been seeded and it is hoped that the sports field may be back in use next summer.
It is the home ground for six football teams and a cricket team.
