THERE’S a right old scrummage going on over in Wigmore.
Pupils at Wigmore School have been busy practising their rugby skills thanks to the purchase of a new scrummaging machine with funding provided by the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust.
Over the last four years the school has seen a keen uptake in rugby particularly from boys and girls from years seven to nine.
This has been helped by a dedicated school pitch, new rugby shirts, community coaches and the purchase of equipment such as contact pads and tackle bags.
The Kingspan Insulation Community Trust has now provided the school with £1,200 to purchase a scrummaging machine.
John Garbutt, chairman of the Trust, said: “It has become clear the provision of specialist equipment and opportunities to play rugby at Wigmore has had a direct impact on the number of pupils taking part.
"At the trust we are always delighted to help encourage youngsters to take part in healthy recreation. By providing such encouragement we hope that once the children leave school they won’t just drop sport but continue on with it both within the community and beyond their school career.”
The trust provides funding to the communities of Shobdon, Pembridge and Kingsland.
