Ludlow Town Res 1 Bishop’s Castle 0 LUDLOW Town Reserves grabbed their first league victory since August with this derby triumph.
A strike from Carl Mynett midway through the second half was enough to earn Town all three points and lift them to 13th spot in the Shropshire County League Division 1 table.
Town’s Craig Simkiss and Martyn Jones had chances during a goalless first period.
A tense second half saw fewer chances fall to either side until Mynett blasted Town in front with a rasping left-foot shot.
Castle had two chances snuffed out by Town’s teenage keeper Kieran Roache before Simkiss saw his shot brush past a post.
Castle’s Alex Jones had a giltedged chance to snatch an equaliser in the dying seconds of the game but he was unable to hit the target.
“It’s a great result for us,”
said Ludlow manager Geoff Simkiss.
“Having lost the last six, we needed points and the team worked really hard for 90 minutes.
It was a decent game and Castle pushed us all the way.”
Castle secretary Andy Betton was less than impressed, however.
“It was a pretty poor performance from us,” he said.
“We just had an off game and for some reason it didn’t happen.”
Both teams are in league action this weekend. Castle host leaders Allscott, while Town travel to Meole Brace.
