KINSHAM’S Chaz Davies has been named as the BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year 2011.
The 24-year-old bike ace won the award – which was voted for by the public – on Monday night.
Knighton-born Chaz clinched the World Supersport Championship title earlier this year.
He became the first Welshman to triumph in a world Superbike class title and is a former BBC Wales Young Sportsman of the Year. Chaz’s mum Sam and girlfriend Hattie Hughes collected his latest honour at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium.
“Chaz is currently training in California and, sadly, he couldn’t be at the awards ceremony,” said mum Sam.
“He was very shocked to win – it’s not normal for motorcyclists to win an award like this. But Chaz is a very proud winner.”
Chaz is moving up to the World Superbikes class when his season gets underway in Australia.
