Newport Town 1 Ludlow Town 0
LUDLOW Town boss Mike Seaborne is eyeing up a cup run after admitting his lads can kiss goodbye to their title hopes.
Seaborne’s men suffered a damaging defeat at table-topping Newport last weekend in the Shropshire County League Premier Division.
Now the former Leintwardine chief is turning his attention to this Saturday’s Premier Division Cup clash with Ketley Bank United.
Seaborne said: “I think we can kiss goodbye to our league title chances now.
“Newport were a good bunch and afterwards they said that we were the most dangerous side in the league.
“We have got Ketley at home on Saturday.
“We lost to a last-minute goal against them. Hopefully, we can put that result to bed and have a bit of a cup run.”
Seaborne said he could not fault any of his lads’ displays against Newport.
“We played well and the players were superb in their application.
“It’s just been our goal-scoring - we have not been as free-scoring as we were last year.”
He added: “Nathan Hodge was very unlucky on Saturday and, on another day, he could have got a hat-trick.
“We did really well and played just as well against Newport as when we beat them 4-0 at our place.”
Newport hit the decisive goal from a set-piece midway through the second half.
“We switched off for a second but it was a well-taken goal and I couldn’t fault anyone,” said Seaborne.
“Our goalkeeper had very little to do and anyone who was a neutral on Saturday, would have thought that we were the team at the top of the league.”
