TESCO have been given approval to build a supermarket on the former cattle market site in the centre of Tenbury.
The decision came near the end of a packed and acrimonious marathon four hour meeting at Tenbury High School.
But it may not be the end of the saga that has split Tenbury for more than two years as objectors have indicated that they are likely to take to matter to judicial review in a bid to overturn the decision by Malvern Hills District Council planners.
Phil Grove, who represents Tenbury on the council, where he is leader of the controlling group, spoke against the supermarket proposal.
He said the issue had left a town divided and had forecast that a refusal would result in Tesco lodging an appeal whilst approval would lead to a judicial review.
The split was illustrated by fellow Tenbury councillor Tony Penn who spoke passionately in favour of the application and launched a blistering attack on the objectors including accusing his council leader of knit-picking.
