There was a good entry of lambs and a strong trade to match at Ludlow Market on Monday, November 11. Buyers were very keen for meat and paid a premium for those better backed types. Best grade butchers lambs topping at 350ppk.
Plenty more fat bulls are needed with the demand as strong as we have seen it. 22 bulls sold over the 300ppk barrier and several would not be top grade bulls, just more middle grade types. Best on the day sold to 333.5ppk and 327.5ppk, with weight no problem once again. Several thick, native bulls 280ppk-310ppk. Blue x Friesian bulls topped at 307.5ppk.
Another fantastic fat cattle trade was reported with averages over 300ppk. Trade moving forward again as buyers try to get stocks ready for Christmas.
There was a good show of ewes and buyers very keen for sheep. Ewes with weight and meat most in demand with several ewes selling at £150+. Small ewes again selling well as long as they had meat. These made from £45-£70. Sellers with ewes are advised to take advantage of the current trade.
At the Ludlow Market store sale last Friday, November 8 there was an excellent show of cows and calves on offer with several buyers travelling a fair distance for the breeding stock on offer. Cows topped at £2700 and £2600 for British Blue x cows with very good Continental calves.

What a store lamb trade! declared auctioneer James Amphlett. Definitely a lift in the trade and plenty more buzz about the store job. Big lambs very much wanted and passing £130 several times with a top of £136 x2.
