A man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old man in Bristol.
Shakawan Siddiqi, 32, is accused of murdering Kunta Ceesay, who died from injuries sustained in an attack in Stapleton Road at about 5.40pm on Friday.
The defendant, of Wade Street in the St Pauls area of the city, will appear before Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Avon and Somerset Police said preliminary results from a forensic post-mortem examination found Mr Ceesay sustained a stab wound to his chest.
Officers were in the area at the time and began administering first aid, with paramedics also attending to provide emergency care at the scene.
Mr Ceesay was taken to Southmead Hospital in the city, where he was pronounced dead later that evening.
A police spokesman said: “A specially-trained officer is continuing to be provided to Mr Ceesay’s family and we are continuing to update them as our investigation progresses.”
He added that the formal process to identify Mr Ceesay would be completed this week.
Siddiqi was remanded into custody ahead of his court appearance.
Two women, aged 36 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released under investigation.
