WELLINGTON LADIES and Penybont United Ladies shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw in their Herefordshire FA Women's League clash on Sunday afternoon at the Kensal Ground.
Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, where both teams created opportunities to break the deadlock, the hosts opened the scoring when Wellington goalkeeper Gemma Smillie converted a 57th penalty awarded for handball.
The Polecats were back on level terms nine minutes later when captain Gemma Bradford picked out Cathy Harris in space before the Penybont forward cut back inside and curled her ensuing shot into the corner of the net.
Both teams had further opportunities to add to their tally but had to be content with a draw at the final whistle.
Harris latched on to a well-timed 84th minute through ball, but Smillie did enough to put her opponent off at the crucial moment as the forward advanced on goal.
Wellington's Lia Williams had a great opportunity to put her team ahead again three minutes later but hit a weak shot straight at Penybont United custodian Katie Christopher.
Harris went on to strike the far post from an 89th minute corner before Bradford's 30-yard free-kick was pushed away to safety by Smillie in stoppage-time as the Polecats were unable to find the crucial second goal.
Elsewhere, Lydia Thorne scored a hat-trick as Ledbury Women ran out 6-0 winners against Tenbury United Ladies, while Chloe Price scored two others.
Going one better was Katie Young who scored four goals in Westfields Ladies’ 6-1 victory against Hereford Lads Club Ladies, while Kirsty Dodd-Cox and Jodie Gwynne also netted.
Finally Ross Juniors Ladies were emphatic 7-1 winners against Belmont Wanderers Ladies.
